How to Change Your Tyres | VW Tips

Changing your tyres can be a daunting task, but with some basic knowledge and the right tools you can easily complete this critical car maintenance job. It is important to understand how to do it yourself so that you can save time, money and most importantly safety when driving on the road. This article will provide an overview of the process involved in changing your tyres, including the tools required and some helpful tips.

Is changing tire easy?

Changing your tyres is not as difficult as it may seem. With the right tools and a basic understanding of the process, you can easily change your own tyres if necessary. Before beginning the job, make sure that you have all the necessary tools including a jack, lug wrench and wheel chocks. You will also need to purchase the correct size and type of tyre for your specific car.

Step 1: Gather the Tools You Need for Changing Your Tyres

Before you start changing your tyres, you'll need to have a few essential tools on hand. Make sure you have these items before beginning your work:

  • A tire iron or lug wrench
  • A jack
  • Gloves
  • Wheel chocks (optional)
  • Tire pressure gauge

Step 2: Loosen the Lug Nuts on Your Wheel

The first step to changing your tyres is to remove the lug nuts that hold them in place. Use a tire iron or lug wrench to do this. If necessary, you can use a breaker bar to loosen the lug nuts. Make sure that all of the lug nuts are loosened before continuing.

Step 3: Raise Your Car

Once the lug nuts have been loosened, it's time to raise your car off the ground using a jack. This will allow you to easily remove the wheel and tyre from your car. Make sure that the jack is positioned correctly and that you are raising the car evenly. If necessary, you can use wheel chocks to ensure that your car won't roll off of the jack when it is raised.

Step 4: Remove Your Old Tyre

Once your car has been lifted off of the ground, it's time to remove the old tyre. You can do this by carefully loosening and removing the lug nuts, then sliding the tyre off of the wheel. Make sure that you are holding on to the old tyre as you do this so that it doesn't roll away.

Step 5: Install Your New Tyre

After you have removed the old tyre from your car, it's time to install the new one. Start by sliding the new tyre onto the wheel and making sure that it is positioned correctly. Once this is done, carefully tighten each of the lug nuts with a tire iron or lug wrench.

Step 6: Lower Your Car

Once you have securely tightened the lug nuts, it's time to lower your car. Do this by slowly lowering the jack until the wheel is firmly resting on the ground. Then, you can remove the jack from under your car and safely store it away.

Step 7: Check Your Tyre Pressure

The last step in changing your tyres is to check the tyre pressure. Use a tyre pressure gauge to make sure that your tyres are at the correct level. You can adjust the pressure as needed with an air compressor or by adding air from a tank.

Changing your tyres doesn't have to be a difficult task. With the right knowledge and tools, you can easily complete this important car maintenance job. Make sure that you have the necessary tools on hand and that you follow the steps outlined in this article for a successful tyre change.
